  1. Whenever you are in a calming situation, your parasympathetic nervous system is in charge, which regulates your heart, digestion, etc. Now, you are probably familiar with the term “fight or flight” which is your sympathetic nervous system which shuts down the regulatory functions. Picture it this way, when your body thinks that something really important or dangerous is happening and your full bodily attention is required, your sympathetic nervous system says to your body, this is no time to think about peeing (which that being said, getting scared might make your parasympathetic system drop so fast that you cannot control your bladder at all). But all in all, I would say that because you are calmed and happy when you are involved with books, I would say it is your parasympathetic nervous system is just kicked in full force. (BTW that’s the best thing to consider when you have a hard time peeing in public etc, you just need to take a deep breath and relax and not be on the defensive. Let your PSNS do its thing, get relaxed, and you’ll be fine).
